THE PORTRAIT by✦YACHTLLYWOOD
Six years. Every department. Now Sales Manager. He is still in his twenties.
There is a version of this story that writes itself. Son of the co-founder. Grows up around the shipyard. Gets handed a title. That is far from being Filippo D. Buonpensiere’s story.
His father, Vasco Buonpensiere, co-founded Cantiere delle Marche in 2010. Filippo could have walked in at any point and taken his place. He chose to start during school holidays, doing whatever the yard needed. Preparation. Detailing. Logistics. The work that happens before anyone talks about sales. The work that teaches you what a boat actually is before you are ever asked to sell one.
Over six years, that beginning became something more deliberate. He moved through every significant layer of the company, representing Cantiere delle Marche at boat shows around the world as part of the team that made those shows happen. He progressed into used-vessel sales transactions, the commercial work that requires both technical knowledge and the ability to read a client accurately. Two skills that take most people a full career to develop together.
In parallel, he completed his degree as an honour student at IUM Monaco, combining a six-month internship at the yard with six months at a London-based institution. Two cities. Two ways of operating. The return was always the same. Back to Ancona, back to the shipyard, back to the work.
Cantiere delle Marche was built around a single conviction. Build the best explorer yachts in the world. The ones that perform in open ocean, in difficult weather, at the distances that test everything a boat is made of. That conviction produced a culture measuring credibility in hours spent, knowledge earned, decisions made under real conditions. A culture that Vasco Buonpensiere helped build from the ground up. A culture his son chose to grow inside of, year after year, before his name appeared on a title.
Ennio Cecchini, Founder and President of Cantiere delle Marche, described the appointment directly.
“Filippo represents the best of what our company culture produces. His career trajectory reflects not just technical competence, but a genuine passion for our craft and for the ocean itself. He arrives in the Sales Department with the credibility that only authentic experience can provide.”
Filippo is a sailor and a surfer. His relationship with the sea runs deeper than professional background. That distinction counts when the clients across from you are serious about where they want to go. Norwegian fjords. Atlantic crossings. Destinations that demand a boat capable of the journey. They ask hard questions. They recognize quickly whether the person across from them genuinely understands what they are talking about.
He grew up in a shipyard that builds those boats. He has worked every part of the process that produces them. He lives the life the boats are built for. When he sits across from a client, nothing needs to be performed.
The superyacht industry talks often about developing young talent. About the next generation, what they bring, why they matter. It talks about it more than it practices it. Cantiere delle Marche practiced it. They gave the co-founder’s son school holiday work and let him earn his place inside the company for six years before giving him a title. That is a philosophy applied consistently until it produces something real. It produced Filippo D. Buonpensiere. Sales Manager, still in his twenties, six years to get there. Not one day wasted.
